The Best dog pair for a person with type-A personality and someone who loves outdoor adventures is a Blue Heeler, also known as the Australian Cattle Dog or simply Cattle Dog. Sometimes you will hear the breed referred to as the Red Heelers or Queensland Heelers. They love their owners tremendously and are sometimes known as “shadow dogs.” They also show intense devotion to their owner and dislike being separated from them. This breed is extremely active that will happily become your next Hiking or running partner.

Blue Heelers are hard-working, intelligent, and loyal. In the past, they were bred to work on farms as herding dogs and they still thrive when they have a job to do. Their loyalty makes them better workers. Like every other working dog, the Blue Heeler loves and needs lots of exercises. Their intelligence, loyalty, and striking looks have made this cattle dog an increasingly popular breed.

Blue Heelers are often trained for herding jobs or performance events, such as agility, tracking, rally, and obedience. The mental and physical exercises provided by these activities will help to keep a Blue Heeler happy and content. If you choose to own a Blue Heeler, you must ensure you have room for the dog to run. It is not recommended for Blue Heelers to live in apartments.

History of the Blue Heeler

Originally, Blue Heelers were bred to create a herding dog. They were bred to thrive in the Australian environment after British settlers emigrated there in the 19th century. Their unique appearance is partly down to the wild dingo blood running through their veins.

After many breedings and cross-breedings, ranchers developed a solid and strong canine who could handle Australia’s harsh climate. Dogs brought to Australia from England were bred with the native Australian Dingo to create the ancestors of the Blue Heeler or Australian Cattle Dog, you know today.

Blue Heeler fun facts

  • The oldest dog ever according to Guinness World Records is an Australian Cattle Dog. The Blue Heeler dog, Bluey lived for 29 years and 5 days.
  • Like their Dalmatian relatives, Blue Heelers are often born completely white.
  • Two celebrities famous for their Australian Cattle Dogs are actors, Owen Wilson, and Matthew McConaughey
  • If you look closely, you’ll find Blue Heelers in the movies, Mad Max and Brokeback Mountain

It is a huge decision to get a new dog, whatever breed you decide to choose. A Blue Heeler can be a wonderful companion and family dog if your circumstances are right. Blue Heelers do best when they have a job to do, whether that job is herding cattle, fetching frisbees, keeping you company on your morning run, or competing in agility contests. That is why Doggy Mobile App believes that have a Blue Heeler for a mascot would be a great idea. He embodies all positive traits that a Blue heeler possesses.
